ʻĀina Restoration

Our ʻŌiwi Resources & Stewardship Department (ORS) is dedicated to restoring place-based native plant species across Mākena Golf & Beach Club, including our archaeological preservation areas. By analyzing recovered archaeological data and soil samples, as well as conducting research on Hawaiʻi chants and moʻolelo, we identify the plant life that once thrived in this region. We also gather native seedstock from across Kahikinui and Honuaʻula to assure the genetics and support the success of the plants in our drier, leeward, and coastal location.
Explore some of these precious plants by clicking on the images with links below and watching the videos led by our Director of ORS, CJ Elizares, an ʻōiwi of Honuaʻula. A student of some of the most prolific fishermen, horticulturalist and conservationist, aloha ʻāina and activists of our time, CJ is committed to carrying their legacies forward to strengthen the symbiotic relationships between ʻāina and kānaka.
