Honua, all of natureʻs creatures, features and elemental phenomena, are not only the foundation of life in Hawaiʻi but also considered elder family members. We are actively working towards reestablishing a leeward, low, dryland forest with a soundscape animated by a chorus of native birds and a dynamic ocean scape pulsing with the ebb and flow of a robust underwater ecosystem. depend on this intimacy with our Honua family to sustain us in Honuaʻula. We are grateful for the opportunity to invite you to deepen your relationship with some of our most precious natural resource kin in our "Meet the Mākena Family" series.

​If you’ve attended any of our community events, you may have noticed these posters on display. They are designed to connect you with a wide range of rich resources on the history and archaeology of Honuaʻula, including stories and knowledge from our mauka ʻohana in ʻUlupalakua. Each poster features scannable QR codes that link to videos and additional resources for deeper exploration.

We invited our Maui community to participate in and contribute to Lau Ke Aloha – a community art creation day and subsequent exhibition honoring native species as kinolau, the many expressions of life, well-being, and vitality in our Island ecosystem.
