Lighting the Path for Our Youth

This special fundraising gathering is dedicated to honoring the vital work of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui and their ongoing commitment to serving, supporting, and empowering Maui’s youth. Through safe spaces, meaningful mentorship, educational opportunities, and enriching programs, the organization helps young people reach their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens

Join us at Mākenaʻs Kilohana restaurant on September 27, 2026, for Mālamalama Ke Ala ʻŌpio, a special fundraising dinner to celebrate the vital work of the Boys & Girls Club of Maui. The evening will highlight the essential work their organization is actively doing in community to serve and empower Mauiʻs youth.

Mālamalama Ke Ala ʻŌpio, meaning “Lighting the path for our youth,” reflects their mission to help Maui’s youth grow, learn, and reach their full potential. Kilohana is Mākena’s signature restaurant offering premier al fresco dining while overlooking Puʻu Ōlaʻi, ʻAlalākeiki Channel, and the golf course. Our chef uses seasonal ingredients from Nāulu Farm and locally sourced producers to curate menus that offer high quality dishes combining traditional favorites with island flair.

Seating is limited and is based on a first-to-register basis.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the honoree. Click on their registration link above to reserve your spot for this special event.

Boys & Girls Club of Maui

Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui (BGCM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to serving Maui’s youth—especially those who need us most—through six clubhouses in Kahului, Kahekili, Haiku, Makawao, Paukukalo, and Lahaina, as well as our new mobile “Club on the Go.” Most clubhouses serve youth and teens ages 8 to 17, with select locations welcoming children starting at age 6. Since 2000, BGCM’s mission has been to empower keiki to reach their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. BGCM clubhouses and programs provide safe, supportive spaces and high-impact youth development programs that foster academic success & workforce readiness, good character & citizenship, and healthy lifestyles. BGCM is an affiliate of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. For more information or to give the gift of a great future, visit BGCMaui.org or call (808) 242-4363.

“We are incredibly grateful to Mākena Golf & Beach and everyone who supports this special dinner at Nāulu Farm. The funds raised will directly support Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui programs to provide our keiki with safe spaces, caring mentors, academic help, healthy meals, and opportunities to grow as leaders.

“The impact of every gift reaches far beyond our Club walls, it helps to strengthen families, build confidence in our young people, and creates a brighter future for communities throughout Maui and Molokaʻi. Events like the dinner hosted by Mākena remind us that when our community comes together, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of our youth.” – Karey Kapoi, Board Chair, Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui.

Kukui

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui chose the kukui nut as our symbol because it represents enlightenment, guidance, and cultural connection. In Hawaiʻi lifeways, the kukui—sometimes referred to as the “candlenut”—is used to provide light, symbolizing knowledge, clarity, and direction. Just as the kukui lights the way, we strive to guide our keiki toward brighter futures. The kukui also honors the deep roots of Hawaiian culture, reminding us to lead with respect, aloha, and a strong sense of community in everything we do.

Lama

We celebrate and amplify the growth of our youth not just physically, but in mind and heart through lama, which is often associated with enlightenment. Care for our youth, both human and plant, is a cherished and critical part of nurturing the regeneration of both a healthy, happy dry forest in Makena and ʻōpio across Maui.
